Bio
I would describe myself as boardgame geek who likes to wind down playing games but does enjoy a good mental challenge.
I am already in my late thirties so I am no stranger to trips down nostalgia street.
I do enjoy good read ("Chronicles of the Black Company" by Glen Cook and "Malazan Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erikson series are my top picks alongside Warhammer 40k and Kurtherian Gambit books.
My Summoner Wars (Hi)Story
Being massively into TCG/CCG and tabletop wargaming, once I have discovered Summoner Wars for the fist time in 2010, I was immediately hooked in, as for me it is the best of both worlds.
Played mainly IRL so I would not consider myself more than a casual player but had a lot of fun with it nevertheless. After downtime with SW1, I welcomed the release of SW2 with online app with "shut up and take my money" attitude as felt like this is exactly what the game needed to spark the interest and reinvigorate the scene.
Favourite faction and favourite card
Too many to choose from! Currently ex aequo:
- Obsidian Dwarves and Pizza Oven, ekhm, I mean The Hell Forge.
- Shadow Elves and Glinting Speed in combination with Selundar's Return to Shadow.
- Sand Goblins for that Mad Max/Wh40k flavour and Mortar.
What would I change about Summoner Wars
I think that PHG's approach is spot on - do not fix what is not broken. They do a lot of playtesting and all changes so far are based on actual data and player's feedback.
I am happy with the current shape of the game, it is great and a significant improvement to the SW1, but its card format is perfect to expand the game even more in future.
Some ideas :Introduce alternative faction Summoners, release a bigger map which can be used in 3-4 players games, add terrain/obstacle/objective cards, which may lay groundwork to alternative win conditions and playing different scenario/skirmishes.
Games beside Summoner Wars
I enjoy tactical/strategy games (especially with asymmetrical factions) the most.
It's a long list but based on the time spent:
Board games: Neuroshima Hex!, Hive, WH:Invasion, Thunderstone, Dominion, Small World
TCG: Magic:The Gathering, The Spoils
Video games: Fire Emblem, Darkest Dungeon, WH40k Gladius, Blood Bowl 2, Battle Brothers, Age of Wonders: Planetfall, Master of Orion, Interstellar Space: Genesis, Ark:Survival Evolved
