I've been into trading card games all my life, from pokemon to yugioh to hearthstone to legends of runeterra to magic the gathering. In 2024, I visited a friend who owns a lot of different board games, and she pitched a few to me, including Summoner Wars 1E. We played a few games, and I thought it was fun but a bit overwhelming, and I didn't really like the artwork. I googled it and saw that there was a second edition with better art and an online app, and that friend and I have been playing a fair amount both irl and online since The game feels to me like "chess with abilities" which is a niche i've kind of always been looking for.
